Banquet entertainment included wonderful jazz music by a group led by our own George Paterson on the trombone.  Jack Kouth joined for several vocal numbers.  And the  "Iowa Supervisor Choir" also led the whole group in singing the songs of the "St. Luke's CPE Choir", Steve Pohlman, Director, that were printed in the October, 2000 NCR newsletter.

The following poem by May Sartin was read in tribute by
NCR Administrtative Board Member Sheryl Wurl:

Letters to a Psychiatrist by May Sartin

In middle age we starve
For ascension,
Look back to childhood teachers
But have outgrown them.

Mature love needs new channels.

How long has it been—
What starving years—
Since I was permitted
To cherish wisdom?

I bend tenderly
Toward the young
With open heart and hands.

I share in a great love
With my equal.

Every day I learn better
About how to give
And how to receive love.

But there is still the need
To be filial toward someone,
To be devoted,
Humble and enlightened.

I need to remain teachable
For one who can teach me.

With you all green things flourish,
All flowers may be freely given,
All fears can be expressed,

No childish need is sneered at,
No adult gift unrecognized.

Speak to me
Of the communion of saints
On earth.

Thank you letter from Clyde & Pat

A new format was tried for the Regional Business Meeting.  Instead of holding one marathon session, it was decided to break the meeting into three parts:  a one hour session in which reports were shared and issues raised for future discussion/action by those presenting the reports; a second session in which previously raised issues and new issues could  be raised for discussion and/or action; and a concluding session in which only action could be taken.  The format received consensus approval from participants who filled out the conference evaluation form.

The group grieved the fact that it was meeting on Yom Kippur, meaning that our Jewish colleagues were necessarily absent from the gathering.  A motion was passed that planning for all future NCR events take into consideration the holy days of all participating faith groups.  Apologies were again extended to the Jewish community.  (To aid us, this webpage now connects to <www.interfaithcalendar.org>.)

A key piece of business was the accepting of the recommendation of a search committee consisting of Arabella Young (from ACPE), Gary Sartain, and Jo Ann O'Reilly, that the 2003 ACPE Annual Meeting, already scheduled for our Region,  be held at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, November 8-15, 2003, subject to successful negotiation of a contract by Arabella.

Michelle Oberwise Lacock, Jo Ann O'Reilly, and Beth Burbank have already volunteered to be on the planning committee, with Michelle even having offered to be Co-convener!  Additional volunteers, including a second Convener, are urgently needed!  We are particularly interested in volunteers from the Milwaukee and Madison areas, since we have substantial Chicago representation.
